AYRINTI YAYINLARI PUBLISHING HOUSE
Founded in 1988 with Ivan Illich’s “Tools for Conviviality,” Ayrıntı Yayınları has been a prominent independent socialist publishing house in Turkey. It emerged in response to the oppressive societal order that took shape after 1980, with its founders coming from a leftist tradition. They aimed to make intellectual production a collective effort and brought important figures in literature, politics, philosophy, art, and social sciences into Turkish for the first time.
Ayrıntı Yayınları
adopted
a publishing policy centered on contemporary thinkers and debates, always staying relevant. They introduced significant texts to Turkish literature, such as The Fall of Publicman, Masse und Macht (Crowds and Power), Nations and Nationalism, Empire and Pedagogy of the Oppressed. They continued to publish works focusing on topics like postmodernism, education, consumer culture, and ethics. They also aimed to give a voice to underground literature, bringing the voices of rebels, losers, dreamers, swearers, “white *iggers”, travellers, and others to the forefront. During this period, they also fought against censorship and bans.
In the 2000s,
in line with the changing publishing landscape,
In 2008,
they established the “Dinozor Çocuk” brand,
making their mark in children’s publishing. They curated a list to enable children to read critically, be environmentally and animal rights-conscious, stand up against injustices, and engage in creative readings. In November 2013, Ayrıntı Dergi was launched with the idea that “new and creative ideas can only emerge through questioning the previous ones.” In 2019, they added the “Dinozor Genç” brand, guiding young readers who want to develop their thinking worlds, be open to innovations, and be aware of global issues. In 2021, they established “Düşbaz Kitaplar” aiming to ensure that good and high-quality texts reach more readers. In contrast to the conventional mass-market and popular concepts, “Düşbaz Kitaplar” seeks to shape the publishing world through its own choices and discoveries, fostering quality competition in the industry.
As they continue to grow with new authors each year, the Ayrıntı Publishing Group remains one of the most important representatives of independent publishing in Turkey, emphasizing that “Ayrıntılar Önemlidir” (Details Matter) in their journey.
